Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Article Section Policy – Original Research Articles

WAJCS is committed to publishing high-quality, ethical, and impactful scientific research that advances clinical sciences, healthcare delivery, and evidence-based medical practice.

1. Aim and Scope

The Original Research Articles section of WAJCS publishes peer-reviewed scholarly works that contribute significantly to clinical sciences, biomedical research, public health, laboratory sciences, and related healthcare disciplines.

The journal welcomes original empirical studies, clinical investigations, epidemiological studies, translational research, implementation science, health systems research, and multidisciplinary healthcare research relevant to Africa and the global scientific community.

Manuscripts previously published or currently under consideration elsewhere will not be accepted.

3. Peer Review Process

All manuscripts undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process.

  1. Initial editorial screening for scope, formatting, ethics, and scientific quality.
  2. Assignment to at least two independent expert reviewers.
  3. Evaluation based on originality, methodological rigor, relevance, and clarity.
  4. Editorial decision: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.
  5. Final publication decision by the Editor-in-Chief.
Average review timeline: approximately 4–8 weeks depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity.

4. Open Access Policy

WAJCS operates a full Open Access publishing model. All articles are freely available online immediately upon publication without subscription or access fees.

Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0)
Authors retain copyright of their work while granting WAJCS the right to publish and disseminate the article.

This license permits unrestricted use, sharing, adaptation, and reproduction in any medium, provided appropriate credit is given to the original authors.

6. Ethical Requirements

All research involving human participants, animals, or sensitive data must comply with internationally recognized ethical standards.

  • Ethical approval from a recognized ethics committee is mandatory.
  • Authors must provide ethical approval reference numbers.
  • Informed consent must be obtained where applicable.
  • Clinical trials should include registration details and registry numbers.

7. Plagiarism Policy

WAJCS maintains zero tolerance for plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, and other forms of academic misconduct.

All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software prior to peer review.

8. Data Transparency and Reporting

Authors are encouraged to maintain transparency in reporting and provide adequate methodological details to ensure reproducibility.

9. Language and Formatting

Manuscripts must be written in clear and grammatically correct English and should comply with the journal’s formatting and referencing guidelines.

10. Publication Frequency

Accepted articles are published within scheduled journal issues and may also appear as “Online First” publications.

11. Archiving and Indexing

WAJCS is committed to long-term digital preservation and seeks inclusion in reputable indexing databases and scholarly repositories.

12. Conflict of Interest Policy

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any relationships or interests that could influence the integrity of the publication process.

13. Article Processing Charges (APC)

Information regarding submission fees or article processing charges will be clearly communicated on the journal website where applicable.

WAJCS publishes high-quality review articles that synthesize current evidence, identify research gaps, and provide scholarly insight into emerging issues in clinical sciences and healthcare.

1. Aim and Scope

The Review Articles section of WAJCS is dedicated to publishing comprehensive, scholarly, and evidence-based reviews that advance understanding in clinical medicine, biomedical sciences, public health, laboratory sciences, and allied healthcare disciplines.

Review articles should critically evaluate and synthesize existing literature, highlight current developments, identify knowledge gaps, and provide direction for future research, clinical practice, and policy formulation.

  • MOOSE Guidelines (where applicable)
  • Relevant EQUATOR Network reporting standards

Authors should clearly describe literature search strategies, inclusion and exclusion criteria, databases searched, and methods used for data synthesis.
